Background information about the consultation forum
On January 1st 2005 FET launched the support action "Beyond The Horizon (B-T-H)" (see www.beyond-the-horizon.net
)
This is a coordination action started in January 2005 with a duration of 18 months which is led by
ERCiM (www.ercim.org)
.
Its purpose is to provide input for the FET FP7 workprogramme by identifying strategic areas in ICT basic technology research that require support,
through a well-defined, extensive and systematic consultation of the relevant S&T communities throughout Europe.
From June to mid-October 2005, ERCiM, in close collaboration with major S&T communities, proceeded to the organisation of 6 thematic
workshops in the following areas:
Another workshop bringing together more than 50 representatives of the above S&T communities was organised on 12-13 December in Paris with the aim to consolidate the findings of the individual groups and establish explicit cross-thematic links and new research directions. Preliminary reports on all these six thematic groups are now available on the ERCiM site.
Between February 1st and April 30th FET (now extended until the 15 of September) is launcing an on-line consultation procedure in the above six areas via the ERCiM web site. Two more consultation procedures were agreed to run in parallel:
for which a strategic report has been written independently from the B-T-H initiative.
