Task 1.1: Structuring QIST

The scientific area of QIST will be structured on the basis of the draft-structure already elaborated by IQOQI. The goal of this task is to elaborate a rough thematic list of QIST-topics that can be accepted by all QIST-groups in Europe.

D 1.3 Description of the QIST-structure

Task 1.2: Contribution to the EC-publication “QIPC in Europe”

We will review the EC-publication “QIPC in Europe” - a collection of reprints of “Scientific American”-style articles from prominent European QIST scientists highlighting the landmarks of EU research in the last 10 years. In the following year a follow up of the publication will be possibly published. WP1 will contribute to this publication in the same way.

D 1.1 Reviewed version of “QIPC in Europe”
D 1.12 Reviewed version of the follow up of “QIPC in Europe”

Task 1.3: QIST-overview

Within this task a short publication that will give (in a generally understandable fashon) an overview of the main QIST-topics based on the structure of Task 1.1 will be written

D 1.4 Draft version of the publication “QIST-overview” describing the most relevant QIST-topics
D 1.9 Publication “QIST-overview”

Task 1.4: Map of the European QIST-community

This task aims at facts finding. It will analyse the scientific community and will develop an overview that contains

This facts will be the input for a database for further works within the ERA-Pilot QIST. The groups participating in this task will elaborate a list of potential evaluators for QIST-related research and development projects that can be addressed by national and European funding organisations.

D 1.5 1st draft version of “Map and cartography of excellence”
D 1.10 publication of a list of potential evaluators for QIST-projects
D 1.13 2nd draft version of “Map and cartography of excellence”
D 1.17 final version of “Map and cartography of excellence”

Task 1.5: Map of European QIST-activities

This task aims at giving an overview of European activities within Europe, focusing on the following levels

Moreover a database of individual persons (“QIST-actors”) that are engaged in QIST-related topics (scientific, policy, funding, industry) will be developed.

D 1.6 Draft version of a Map of European activities
D 1.11 1st draft version of a database of QIST-actors
D 1.14 2nd draft version of Map of European activities
D 1.15 2nd draft version of a database of QIST-actors
D 1.18 final version of a Map of European activities
D 1.19 final version of a database of QIST-actors

Task 1.6: Analysis of Roadmaps

This task aims at analysing QIST-related guidelines and roadmaps that have been developed within other research areas. The applicability of such roadmaps to the European situation will be investigated.

D 1.7 Draft version of an analysis of QIST-related guidelines and roadmaps outside the ERA
D 1.20 Analysis of QIST-related guidelines and roadmaps outside the ERA

Task 1.7: Elaborating a QIST-guideline

Based on the work already started by the QIPC-Roadmap Committee (lead by Peter Zoller, University of Innsbruck) that has been established in September 2004 this task will update the roadmap in regular intervals to create input for the preparation of FP7 and subsequently FP8. After the start of the ERA-Pilot QIST the QIPC-Roadmap Committee will supervise the activities within this task. Moreover the groups participating in this task will establish an early dialogue between science, policy, and industry in order to develop a common vision of the future of QIST research and development within Europe. The final deliverable will be a generally accepted position paper that is the result of a discussion process executed virtually or on the QIST-symposia.

D 1.2 1st update of the QIPC-roadmap
D 1.8 2nd update of the QIPC-roadmap
D 1.16 3rd update of the QIPC-roadmap
D 1.21 Strategic report with detailed technical assessment and outlook per sub-area
